ZARA, MEDIA MARKT AND FORD SPAIN RECEIVE SIL AWARDS AT “LOGISTICS NIGHT”

  • The award for logistical efficiency and technological innovation went to ZARA (INDITEX), in the digitalization of the supply chain category the winner was MEDIA MARKT, and the sustainability logistics award was won by FORD SPAIN.
  • LINDE MATERIAL HANDLING for Linde Robotics and CMA CGM IBÉRICA for Aquaviva received SIL Awards for the best Innovations presented at the Trade Fair. These were chosen by a jury of 13 specialised sector journalists.

Barcelona, 7 June 2018. The 20th anniversary of the International Logistics and Material Handling Exhibition (SIL 2018), Southern Europe’s leading sector event, held its main celebration last night. “La Nit de la Logística” (Logistics Night) took place in the garden of the Fairmont Juan Carlos I Hotel in Barcelona. The gala dinner for the sector was chaired by Damià Calvet, Minister of Territory and Sustainability of the Government of Catalonia. Calvet was joined by the President of the Government of Valencia, Ximo Puig, the Special Delegate of the State in the Consorci de la Zona Franca in Barcelona and SIL Chairman Jordi Cornet, General Manager of Goods at RENFE, Abelardo Carrillo, General Manager of the SIL, Blanca Sorigué, and chairs, CEOS and general managers of outstanding sector companies.

SIL 2018 awards to the best logistics projects

The SIL 2018 awards ceremony was held during the “Logistics Night”, sponsored by Fomento Group (Adif, Aena, Puertos del Estado and Renfe). This year there were 17 finalists. Awards were given out in three categories: logistical efficiency and technological innovation, digitization of the supply chain and sustainable logistics.

The SIL jury, the Organiser’s Committee, awarded the SIL for logistical efficiency and technological innovation to ZARA (Inditex) for its same-day order delivery system, which features afternoon and evening time slots and is implemented through Fulfilment Centres leased around large cities, “ship from fulfilment centre in Paris, London & New York” without preparation of orders in store.

The SIL Award for digitization of the supply chain was awarded by the SIL Organisers Committee to Media Markt for its “ship from store to compete with pure-players” system, whereby orders are prepared in store and delivered within one hour in Barcelona and two hours in Madrid. This is achieved by digitization of all processes, carried out by more than 700 third-party logistical operators throughout Spain. José Manuel Sala, Director of Supply Chain and Omnichannel Operations for Media Markt, accepted the award.

Finally, the SIL Award for Sustainability in Logistics went to FORD Spain for a project it has been working on since 2016 with a 2020 horizon to adapt the FORD Spain rail lines to the Mediterranean corridor (change to UIC and mixed width). The Logistics Manager at FORD Spain, Luis Rafecas, received the award.

SIL 2018 awards to the best innovations presented at the Fair

During the “Logistics Night” SIL awards were also handed to those responsible for the best innovations presented at the exhibition. The 13 journalists specialised in logistics chose the Linde Robotics range by Linde Material Handling Ibérica and the Aquaviva container by CMA CGM Ibérica from among 150 innovations presented by participating companies.

In the case of Linde Robotics, the jury was impressed by the Linde range, which includes trucks, pallet trucks, stacker reach trucks and a tortoise, which is suited to all types of operations: from individual processes to complex flows of materials. A unique geo-navigation system detects spatial structures, turning them into a two-dimensional map that defines routes and points of action, with the possibility of adding new routes and space changes quickly and easily. These vehicles can also interact directly with the Warehouse Management System (WMS) and the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP). The Information Technology Unit manages incoming orders, assigns route-optimised tasks to vehicles, receives feedback from vehicles and controls traffic and the fleet, all in a transparent manner. Thanks to Linde Robotics, human resources can be assigned to higher value-added tasks. Jaume Gener, Managing Director of Linde Material Handling Ibérica, accepted the award.

The jury also showed its appreciation for the Aquaviva Container by CMA CGM Ibérica that enables safe transportation of live lobsters and, in the future, live seafood. This new container uses INNOPURE® technology developed by EMYG, an international engineering company specialised in professional water filtration and transport of live shellfish. Until now, lobsters has to be transported either frozen or live by plane. Now, with new Aquaviva containers, they can be transported by sea in optimal conditions that mimic their natural habitat, thus preserving the quality of the product. Mark Poveda, Director of Operations and Exploitation at CMA CGM Ibérica, accepted this prestigious award.

SIL 2018 ends at 6 pm this afternoon

The extremely successful 20th anniversary of the International Logistics and Material Handling Exhibition (SIL 2018) will end this evening at 6pm. It is worth noting the Job Market Place organised at the fair by Barcelona Activa and SIL, that took place this morning, where Decathlon, CELSA, DSV Road Spain and Iberian Dupessey, among others, sought candidates to fill vacancies such as an account manager, consultant, logistics department manager, logistics technical operator, salesman, maritime documentation technician, traffic controller with languages, sales administration, programmer…
