BWAW: Six years accelerating gender equality in the business sector, with Pere Navarro and Blanca Sorigué

In this episode of ODS5, the women’s talent podcast by Zona Franca Barcelona, we join the Barcelona Woman Acceleration Week (BWAW), an event aimed at accelerating gender equality and promoting women’s participation in the economy. We are joined by Blanca Sorigué, General Director of the Consorci de la Zona Franca de Barcelona, and Pere Navarro, Executive President of the Consorci, who share their insights on the impact and evolution of this event throughout its six editions.

Sorigué and Navarro reflect on the importance of making female talent visible in a business environment that has historically been dominated by men. They discuss how BWAW evolved from an idea born during the pandemic into a consolidated event that brings together professionals from various sectors to address gender equality from multiple perspectives. They also highlight the need to involve society as a whole in this effort, emphasizing that gender equality is not just a women’s issue — it concerns all of us.

The conversation also explores topics such as education, gender quotas, and female representation in industries like gaming and technology. Blanca and Pere stress that it is essential to keep working to ensure that legislative progress is reflected in culture and everyday life, and that the commitment to equality must be constant and not limited to specific dates.

This episode is a call to action to continue driving gender equality forward and to recognize that, although progress has been made, there is still much work to be done.
