Literature and Feminism: A Journey Toward Equality. With Gemma Lienas
In this episode of ODS5, the female talent podcast by Zona Franca Barcelona, we have the privilege of speaking with Gemma Lienas, a renowned Catalan writer, speaker, and politician. Gemma, widely recognized for her strong commitment to gender equality, shares her experiences and reflections on feminism and her literary career, which includes nearly 100 titles where she has used literature as a tool to highlight and challenge gender inequalities.
During the conversation, Gemma tells us how, from a very young age, she began to rebel against the patriarchal norms around her and how her love for reading led her to discover her feminist identity. She talks about her famous character, Carlota, from Carlota’s Violet Diary, and how this book has impacted generations of young people by raising awareness about women’s rights. She also reflects on the setbacks in the fight for equality she has observed in recent years, especially among youth, and how pornography and gender stereotypes have influenced perceptions of sexuality and relationships.
Gemma also warns about the dangers of movements seeking to return to traditional gender roles and emphasizes the importance of education and solidarity among women to advance in the fight for their rights. This episode is a powerful reminder that knowledge and unity are essential to building a more equitable future.
