Barcelona, 19 May 2021. – The special delegate of the State in the Consorci de la Zona Franca de Barcelona (CZFB), Pere Navarro, participated in the conference organized by El Diario.es under the name “European recovery funds: this is how Spain is going to change” . Navarro participated in the round table “Promoting innovation and research” together with Fina Lladós, general director of Amgen; Mercedes Caballero, Secretary General of European Funds of the Ministry of Finance; Jorge Barrero, CEO of COTEC; and Núria Mas, counselor of the Bank of Spain and professor of Health Economics and Economics at IESE Business School.

In his speech, the special delegate of the State in the CZFB highlighted the entity’s innovative capacity, by boosting an ecosystem that allows rapid responses to new market needs. Along these lines, he highlighted the latest investments made by the entity in terms of innovation: DFactory Barcelona, ​​called to become one of the leading innovation hubs in Europe for the development of the new industry; the project to convert the emblematic Correos building into a hub for economic revitalization and on-demand technological training; a network of incubators promoted together with the Incyde Foundation; the 3D Incubator, the first incubator in Europe in high 3D printing created together with Leitat; and the disruptive BNEW event, whose objective is to promote all sectors related to the new economy.

Emphasizing the DFactory Barcelona project, which will be inaugurated in the coming months with Leitat as a technological partner, Pere Navarro, insisted that “it is a space in which companies will have access to the latest in technology, and they will be able to nurture shared knowledge through Open Innovation processes ”. Likewise, the building will have shared technological laboratories. “The objective is to generate synergies and add up to move on in the development of collaborative economy,” said Navarro.

Institutional and business representation

The conference, opened by the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, also featured an interview with David Sassoli, President of the European Parliament, and a speech by Valdis Dombrovskis, Vice President of the European Commission and Commissioner for the Euro and Social Dialogue.

In the eight meeting round tables participated other senior political officials at the national level such as Yolanda Díaz, third vice president of the Government and Minister of Labor; Reyes Maroto, Minister of Industry, Commerce and Tourism, as well as José Luis Ábalos, Minister of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda, who closed the meeting.

In addition, there has also been an important representation of the business sector with prominent executives such as Carmen Urraca, director of European Funds at Banco Sabadell; Isaac Hernández, CEO of Google Cloud for Spain and Portugal; Juan Cierco, corporate director of Iberia.
