Pere Navarro has highlighted the urgent need to expand Barcelona’s Airport

Barcelona, 1 June 2021.- The Special Delegate of the State at the Consorci de la Zona Franca de Barcelona (CZFB), Pere Navarro, has participated in a virtual session for the Cercle d’Infraestructures under the title “Zona Franca Barcelona, innovation and 4.0 industry “.

As the main axis of the session, the special delegate of the State in the CZFB has insisted on the “imperative need to expand the Barcelona Airport to turn it into an international hub to reactivate the economy, while reaffirming Barcelona’s potential as the world capital of the new economy ”. Pere Navarro has added that “the expansion is also an opportunity to turn one of the largest infrastructures in the city into an example in terms of innovation and sustainability.”

Likewise, the special delegate of the State has highlighted the CZFB’s commitment to the new economy and 4.0 industry with important outstanding projects such as the 3D Incubator, the first high-tech incubator in 3D printing promoted two years ago together with Leitat and with the help of ERDF funds from the Incyde Foundation of the Spanish Chambers of Commerce, and through the major project of the DFactory Barcelona. “The factory of the future, also with Leitat as a technological partner, will be inaugurated next summer and will become a benchmark for 4.0 Industry and a space where all companies that have innovation as a priority in their production process will want to be”, Navarro has assured.

Pere Navarro has also reaffirmed the CZFB’s commitment to the 2030 Agenda and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, becoming its ambassadors with the aim of “building a new sustainable industrial culture hand in hand with all the companies in our environment”.

Finally, the special delegate of the State in the CZFB has highlighted that Barcelona is a practically unique case in the world due to the location of its main infrastructures, since “Port of Barcelona, ​​the airport and the Zona Franca are concentrated in a few kilometers, and that provides a great logistical value to the city of Barcelona ”.
