Barcelona, 20 April 2021 – El Consorci de la Zona Franca de Barcelona (CZFB) and Casa Amèrica Catalunya have signed this morning a collaboration agreement to reinforce the entity’s relationships with economic models that have values (cultural development, environmental sustainability, social inclusion) in Latin America and the Caribbean. The CZFB has thus consolidated its position as a benchmark for those who want to develop innovation and 4.0 industry activities in Europe.

Marta Nin, director of Casa Amèrica Catalunya, and Blanca Sorigué, CEO of the Consorci de la Zona Franca de Barcelona, have taken part in the signing ceremony, which has taken place at the CZFB offices.

Blanca Sorigué has highlighted that the CZFB has traditionally maintained very good relations with the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean and has pointed out that “this collaboration agreement with Casa Amèrica Catalunya will enhance us to work on the creation of new alliances to promote the joint development of a new economy for Latin American companies to find in Barcelona the necessary opportunities to increase their presence in Europe ”.

Marta Nin has stressed that “after the serious situation caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, it is revealing that in many spaces in Latin America and the Caribbean, unique and sustainable business initiatives have been consolidated or emerged that today are part of the circular economy. For this reason, we have believed it important to promote, with the Consorci de la Zona Franca de Barcelona, these sessions dedicated to the economy with values, the economy of the future if we want to continue advancing towards a more just and reasonable world ”.

New Economies in the Latin American región

As part of the collaboration agreement, during the next 15 and 16 June, the CZFB and Casa Amèrica Catalunya will organize a conference to analyze the evolution of business models in Latin America and the Caribbean based on the economy of values, as well as the development of new economies that offer multiple future opportunities for our society.

In recent years, the CZFB has tightened its ties with Latin America and become a great ally of the region for the growth of key sectors such as logistics. In this sense, Barcelona hosted in 2016 and 2019 the ALACAT Congress, the largest Congress of Logistics Operators, Freight Forwarders and Customs in Latin America in the framework of the International Logistics Exhibition (SIL). Likewise, the 2018 edition of the SIL was part of the Congress of the Association of Customs Agents of the Americas (ASAPRA), which was the first time ever to be held in Europe.

In this sense, in 2020 the CZFB decided to create SIL Americas in Barranquilla (Colombia) in alliance with Corferias and the Colombian Federation of Logistics Agents in international trade FITAC. Although due to the health circumstances produced by the Covid-19 pandemic the event had to be postponed, the CZFB is still committed to holding this meeting as soon as the situation enables it.
