The Diversity Charter is part of a European project that seeks to promote and encourage diversity and inclusion in the workplace, as well as equal opportunities in business. The signing of the commitment to join the Diversity Charter of this public entity took place this morning within the framework of DFactory Barcelona. Maravillas Rojo, trustee of the Fundación para la Diversidad, and Pere Navarro, the special delegate of the State in the Consorci de la Zona Franca de Barcelona, attended the event. It is the first of the seven free trade zones to join this movement, which today includes more than 1,600 organisations in Spain.

With this adhesion, the CZFB, which brings together nearly 200 companies, is committed to promote equal opportunities in the workplace for women and historically discriminated groups, such as people with disabilities, migrants and refugees, LGBTI+, young people and seniors, in line with the strategic planning of the entity with regarding to the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda. In addition, the company is involved in promoting diversity and creating an inclusive work environment, where diversity of talent and viewpoints are valued and respected.

The 10 principles on Diversity and Inclusion of the Charter are:

  1. Raising awareness about equality and diversity
  2. Building a diverse workforce
  3. Promoting an inclusive culture
  4. Considering diversity in all people management policies
  5. Promoting personal and work reconciliation policies
  6. Recognizing customer diversity
  7. Communicating this commitment internally
  8. Communicate to suppliers
  9. Transfer and communicate this commitment to third parties
  10. Disseminating D&I policies and results

Maravillas Rojo, trustee of the Fundación para la Diversidad, said: The participation of the CZFB in this initiative is a great step towards the dissemination of inclusion and diversity to all the companies that are part of the Consorci. Fundación Diversidad celebrates the commitment of this public entity to diversity, equity and inclusion in its organisation, both within its workforce and externally with customers and suppliers aiming to create a fairer and more egalitarian society”.

Pere Navarro, special delegate of the State in the CZFB, said that “our commitment to equality and diversity is firm and indisputable to guarantee that all people feel safe, welcomed and have the same job opportunities because we have the responsibility to transform society and to make a better and fairer world”.

In order to achieve this goal, the CZFB, together with the prestigious advisor and expert consultant in diversity and gender, Mireia del Pozo, is organising the cycle of conferences “Talento en la Zona Franca” in order to promote the cultural and business change encouraged by the organisation in the Free Zone of Barcelona towards a more dynamic, involved, inclusive and egalitarian company, in line with the evolution of business management towards sustainability and technological innovation.

It must be noted that in 2020 the CZFB created the first Women’s Council of the Zona Franca of Barcelona, an advisory and consultative organisation that aims to raise the awareness of female talent in the industrial sphere and to encourage a gender perspective and equality of rights. It also held the third edition of the Barcelona Woman Acceleration Week (BWAW) this year, the benchmark event for promoting gender equality in the business and industrial sphere.
