The minister of Territory, Housing and Ecological Transition of the Generalitat of Catalonia visits the DFactory Barcelona

  • Sílvia Paneque highlights the importance of initiatives such as DFactory, promoted by the Consorci de la Zona Franca de Barcelona, to accelerate the transformation of industry and the creation of new opportunities for society.

 

  • On the occasion of the visit, the special delegate of the State at the CZFB, Pere Navarro, and the general director of the CZFB, Blanca Sorigué, presented the project to expand this innovation ecosystem that will reach 100,000 m2 of surface area with the forecast of creating direct employment for 1,500 people and indirect employment for 5.000.

 

Barcelona, 1 October 2024.- The minister of Territory, Housing and Ecological Transition of the Generalitat de Catalunya, Sílvia Paneque, today visited the facilities  of DFactory Barcelona, the industry 4.0 ecosystem of international reference promoted by the Consorci de la Zona Franca de Barcelona (CZFB) that currently brings together 32 companies robotics, 3D printing, sensors, artificial intelligence, IoT, nanotechnology, augmented and virtual reality.

During the visit, the minister of Territory, Housing and Ecological Transition of the Generalitat de Catalunya, Sílvia Paneque, was able to speak with some of the heads of the companies installed in DFactory and learn first-hand about their activity. Likewise, Paneque has held a meeting with the special delegate of the State in the CZFB, Pere Navarro, and the general director of the CZFB, Blanca Sorigué, who have presented the different economic promotion projects that the entity is developing.

The special delegate of the State in the CZFB, Pere Navarro, explained that “the success of DFactory is a reality since this industry 4.0 ecosystem currently has 85% occupancy, generating 220 direct jobs and 650 indirect jobs. In addition, we are advancing in a second phase of expansion of this ecosystem, which will add 72,500 m2 to the current 17,000 m2, with the forecast of generating direct employment for 1,500 people and approximately 5,000 indirect jobs”.

Finally, the general director of the CZFB, Blanca Sorigué, stressed that “from the Consorci de la Zona Franca de Barcelona, as an active agent of change, we want to promote the new economy and social and economic progress, prioritizing the SDGs. Our goal is for the philosophy and spirit of DFactory to permeate the entire Zona Franca industrial estate with the goal of turning the Barcelona Metropolitan Region into the great international District 4.0”.

During her visit to DFactory Barcelona, the minister of Territory, Housing and Ecological Transition has seen first-hand some of the main projects that are being developed and growing in this large open innovation ecosystem of 17,000 m2, where a new way of producing more, better and closer is conceived.
