  • World leaders in the international trade sector debate on the challenges and problems that arise as a result of cyber security in worldwide transactions at the ASAPRA Congress.
  • This evening, “The Logistics Night” gala is being held, the sector’s evening meal that will award prizes to the best logistical projects undertaken by industrial companies and the best innovations presented at the SIL 2018.

Barcelona, 6th June 2018.- SIL 2018, the leading Trade Fair in Logistics, Transport, Intralogistics and Supply Chain in the South of Europe has the Valencian Community as its guest autonomous community at this year’s edition. This is why, this morning, the president of the Valencian Community, Ximo Puig, gave a press conference at the Trade Fair to show the entire logistical potential of the community, presenting it as a pole for investment and a gateway to the South of Europe. It should be mentioned that the participation of the Valencian Community at the SIL 2018 shall be carried out in a coordinated way between the Administration and the autonomous region’s entrepreneurial confederation, as well as the main companies and logistics operators found on the 300-m2 stand that the Community has at the Trade Fair. In this way, it exhibits its entire logistical potential with the aim of attracting the greatest number of investors.

During the presentation, Ximo Puig stated that “the Valencian Community is at the SIL to explain that it is a land of opportunities and that in logistical matters it is a great power, therefore, the Community is a good place in which to invest.” During his time at the SIL, Ximo Puig also reminded people that “if there is a priority infrastructure in Spain and in the South of Europe it is the Mediterranean Corridor as more than 50% of Spanish goods go along it, therefore it cannot continue to be at a standstill because this has a negative impact on the competitiveness of our companies. It is essential that the terms of execution should be dealt with and I am sure that with the new government, this will be made easier.”

Aragon, Murcia, Catalonia, Euskadi, Andalusia and Castile and León also made the most of their participation at the SIL 2018 to present their logistical offer.

The ideal platform for launching new projects and services

This year’s edition of the SIL Barcelona is notable for being the launching platform chosen by the companies in the supply chain sector to present their latest projects, innovations and services. To this end, Hutchinson Ports made the most of its participation at the Trade Fair to present its new Synergy brand, which will be responsible for developing the company’s intermodal services between Barcelona and the main railway terminals in Spain and Europe; the Fundació i2Cat showed its project and system for monitoring goods without battery based on NFC technology.

The Consorci de la Zona Franca in Barcelona presented, along with the Leitat Technological Centre, the 3D additive printing incubator, an innovative project which enjoys funds from the European Union, and which is promoted to favour small and medium enterprises becoming part of the application of the 4.0 economy processes. The SIL also served as a platform to disseminate the Zona Franca Ecocircular project, an ambitious programme of sustainability and entrepreneurial collaboration that seeks to reduce industrial waste and make the very most of the resources of companies located in the Zona Franca Industrial Estate.

The challenge of cyber security in international commerce

The Congress of the International Association of Professional Customs Brokers (ASAPRA), which is being held at the SIL 2018 and which brings together more than 300 professionals in international trade from all over the world, has placed its point of attention on cyber security as a sensitive aspect in international trade transactions. It should be remembered that last year, a cyberattack affected large international companies, including one of the main shipping companies in the world, which paralysed a major part of international trade for some days. Therefore, the impact that cyber security has on international trade has been analysed, as well as the challenges it offers to prevent or minimise situations such as that of last year.

Meeting point for 450 ports and terminals on the Mediterranean

The SIL 2018 held the Mediterranean Ports Summit today, the major platform for maritime transport. The Mediterranean region has more than 450 ports and terminals, representing 30% of the worldwide maritime trade in terms of volume, and is the second largest destination in the world for tourism cruises, hosting a coastal population of 150 million people. At the Mediterranean Ports Summit, the perspectives of port development in the Mediterranean were presented and the business model to be adopted in the future was debated.

A digital and globally integrated supply chain

Automation and robotics were the main protagonists at the SIL Congress. Among the many conclusions that were extracted from the numerous sessions that were held, it should be mentioned that the main experts in the sector are committed to a totally digitalised and globally integrated supply chain, from suppliers, factories through to clients, due to the social and entrepreneurial trends of the 4.0 industry and the new emerging technologies (IoT, Big Data, 3D Printing, autonomous robots, sensors, etc.).

Tonight “The Logistics Night” will take place, the great gala meal in the sector which will take place at the garden of Fairmont Juan Carlos I Hotel, and at which the SIL 2018 prizes will be awarded, aimed at recognising companies that have stood out during the year for having undertaken sustainable, innovative logistical projects or for having transformed their supply chain. The best innovations presented at the SIL 2018 will also be given prizes.
