Founded in 2005 in Odense, Denmark, Universal Robots is a company specialized in the manufacture of collaborative robots (cobots), with a mission to democratize automation, making it accessible to any industrial environment anywhere in the world. With approximately 1.000 employees spread over more than 30 cities worldwide, and over 90.000 cobots sold across Europe, Asia, and the Americas, Universal Robots offers robotic solutions for sectors including metallurgy and machining; electronics and technology; automotive and subcontractors; furniture and equipment; plastics and polymers; medicine and cosmetics; food and beverages, as well as solutions for the education and science sector.
To achieve its mission, the company works with PolyScope software, globally recognized for its comprehensive solutions offering and featuring the integration of UR+: the world’s largest cobots ecosystem, a global and collaborative network of more than 1.200 distributors, system integrator companies, and certified kit developers, components, grippers, software, and safety accessories that integrate seamlessly with their cobots to adapt to any application.
According to Jordi Pelegrí, Country Manager for Spain and Portugal at Universal Robots: “Our presence in DFactory Barcelona reinforces our commitment to innovation and collaboration with key companies in the sector, many of which are already part of the UR ecosystem. Last year we successfully held an edition of WeAreCobots at DFactory, an incomparable space as a hub of innovation and inspiration, driving the adoption of advanced robotic solutions. This year we are repeating the experience, further consolidating Barcelona’s strategic role in our expansion in the region and in the industry 4.0 ecosystem”.
Pere Navarro, the Special State Delegate at CZFB, explains that “DFactory Barcelona is a dynamic ecosystem, continuously growing and evolving due to the ever-changing environment that is the advancement towards industry 4.0. Having Universal Robots is a great privilege, not only for our tech hub but also for the synergies that can arise with the other companies located in the building”.
Among Universal Robots’ pioneering projects are the latest generation of heavy-duty cobots, the UR20 and UR30. These models have been redesigned from the ground up to provide maximum versatility in the production environment, adapting to a wide range of industrial applications. Moreover, Universal Robots has the UR Academy, the company’s certified training programme that provides training through free online courses and in-person training, helping operators learn to programme cobots according to business needs, and the Universal Robots education programme, designed to approach robotics to students in schools, colleges, and universities, through the use of advanced training resources.
Universal Robots will now have a space within the industry 4.0 ecosystem at DFactory Barcelona, thus increasing its potential for generating new business and boosting the brand among the entire public and large corporations that make up this innovation space.
Currently, the ecosystem has facilities of 17,000m² over four floors, where 35 companies are already installed, representing 85% occupancy. Additionally, the second phase of the iconic building is already being projected, an impetus that will allow it to reach nearly 100,000m² in the coming years.
