Towards a new female economy
1 de March de 2022
The new economy is characterized by the fact that it does not refer to a specific sector, but to a new mode of production and consumption, resulting from technological changes related to information technology, communications, and globalization. Its core values include sustainability, innovation, transparency, commitment, technology, etc.
There is consensus about this new scenario: the female role must take center stage in this new economy based on social and environmental value creation, which additionally will result in economic benefit.
And in 2022, society no longer expects that value to remain restricted to certain spheres and closed circles but demands that it be a heritage for all.
That is, you cannot contribute to a society and an economy that promotes quality of life and the dignity of people without ensuring equality in recruitment, remuneration policies and promotion.
The new economy brings great opportunities and challenges but adapting to change is no longer enough, the only way to survive is to create what is about to come. To this end, new technologies, diversity of perspectives, genres and disciplines are the priorities in this new scenario.
In this regard, it is urgent not to postpone improvements to prevent workplace discrimination, focusing especially on promoting the equal participation of women in highly qualified jobs, in the scientific, technological, engineering, and mathematical fields, as well as in management positions.
According to a study by Bank of America, if effective gender equality is achieved, global GDP could increase by $28 trillion (23.4 trillion euros) by 2025. This data can be improved by paying attention to the demands being made by sectors such as virtual reality, artificial intelligence and data science, asking to take advantage of the challenge, and turn it into an opportunity to attract female talent to their related professions.
Entrepreneurship and technology are the two factors that work in favor of this future and, above all, to increase the presence of women in this long-term work scenario. The real opportunities for women will be related to their preparation and presence in these new sectors of the new economy: whether they are engineers, chemists, economists, biologists, sociologists…. This will promote an approach towards innovation on a more egalitarian and responsible basis, that is committed to sustainability, a key factor in today’s global and complex world.
It is vital to move towards this new economy by increasing female presence: it will make it more sustainable and regenerative, more collaborative, fairer, and oriented towards the common good. A more female-led business leadership will also be crucial for full economic recovery and will foster innovation.
