Barcelona, April 15, 2026.– DFactory Barcelona, promoted by the Barcelona Free Zone Consortium (CZFB), today hosted the closing event of the pilot project and the official launch of Spot4Dis, an innovative digital solution designed to improve the management and use of parking spaces for people with reduced mobility (PRM) in urban environments. The event brought together representatives from five European public administrations—Valencia, Zaragoza, A Coruña, Badajoz and Genoa—cities where the solution has been tested under real-life conditions, as well as social and technology organizations and mobility experts.
Promoted by the Association of People with Reduced Mobility (AsoPMR), the Spot4Dis project has been developed in collaboration with the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC) and supported by Google.org, consolidating itself as an example of technological innovation applied to social well-being and data-driven improvements in urban accessibility. During the event, the results of the pilot project and the main insights gained from its implementation were presented, along with the Spot4Dis People application aimed at users and the management tools designed for public administrations, which enable the optimization of public space monitoring and planning.
In this context, AsoPMR has installed, on a trial basis, four IoT sensors in parking spaces for people with reduced mobility located in the car park adjacent to DFactory Barcelona, with the aim of monitoring the occupancy and usage of these spaces in real time. In addition, a Smart Barrier has been installed in a nearby general parking space, demonstrating how technology can facilitate controlled access management and contribute to a more efficient and fair use of public space.
The municipal representatives participating in the project shared their experience in implementing the solution, highlighting its potential to improve urban accessibility, enhance the efficiency of managing PRM parking spaces, and advance towards more inclusive and sustainable cities. The programme also included the presentation of complementary initiatives within the Spot4Dis ecosystem, such as solutions for validating the proper use of PRM parking spaces and inclusive mobility projects, including an accessible Park & Ride model.
One of the highlights of the event was a live practical demonstration (Demo Hub) featuring racing driver Albert Llovera, which showcased the operation of the technology in a real-world setting. This Demo Hub reflects the CZFB’s interest in exploring potential collaborations within DFactory Barcelona and could be integrated in the future as a permanent space for demonstrating advanced mobility solutions.
The event concluded with remarks by Pere Navarro, Executive President of the CZFB, who emphasized the value of collaboration between public administrations, social organizations and technology companies as a key driver for progress towards more accessible, innovative and people-centred cities. Through initiatives such as Spot4Dis, the CZFB and DFactory Barcelona strengthen their positioning as a benchmark ecosystem in Industry 4.0, technological innovation and social impact projects, promoting solutions that contribute to more inclusive, efficient and sustainable mobility.
